Why we are building Cites X in Asia first
Something has changed in how buyers decide who to trust. They used to search, scan a page of links, and click. Now they ask an AI, ChatGPT, Claude, Perplexity, Gemini, and they read the answer. The brands named in that answer win the consideration. The ones left out never get the click, because there is no page of links to lose on anymore.
We are building Cites X for that shift, and we are starting in private beta in Asia, Singapore and Hong Kong first. Here is why.
Brand, earned media, and AI answers are one funnel now
For years, brand, PR, and search were run by different people, with different tools and different scoreboards. That split no longer makes sense. The brand you build shapes the story a journalist will tell. The coverage you earn becomes the source an AI engine cites. The citation is what a buyer reads before they ever reach your site. It is one funnel, from a clear brand to earned media to the answer AI gives, and Cites X runs the whole of it in one place.
Most tools pick a single slice. A PR tool that never touches your brand. A brand tool that never gets you covered. A rank tracker that counts blue links no one clicks anymore. We think the slices have to be joined, because the thing that matters now, being the trusted answer, depends on all of them at once.
Why Asia, and why first
Three reasons. First, this is where we are, and we would rather build for markets we understand than guess at them from far away. Second, Asia is where the global databases and tools are thinnest. The outlets, the desks, and above all the reporters across Singapore, Hong Kong, Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand, Vietnam and the Philippines are under-mapped, and coverage that lands here is coverage in the local language, not a translation. Third, that gap is the opening. When the rest of the industry treats the region as an afterthought, doing it properly becomes an advantage you can hold.
We have spent months building the foundation for exactly this: a living archive of reporters profiled by what they actually publish, not a bought list, and weighted toward these markets. It is what lets us match a story to the right desk here, instead of blasting a stale spreadsheet and hoping.
Brand before PR, on purpose
It is tempting to chase press first. It almost never works. A pitch only lands when the story underneath it is clear, and the story is only clear when the brand is. So Cites X starts where the funnel starts: strategy, positioning, message and voice. Then it carries that into content, into pitches aimed at the right journalists, into the coverage itself, and finally into whether an AI engine cites you when a buyer asks who is best. Get the order right and everything downstream gets easier. Get it backwards and you pay for it at every step.
What the private beta is
Right now Cites X is invitation only. It is for founders and lean teams who want to run brand and PR as software, ship real coverage, and see whether they are becoming the answer AI gives, without hiring an agency to do it slowly. Over the coming weeks we are opening a small number of seats, learning in the open, and writing about what we find as we go.
If that is you, you can request access, and you can follow along here. We will be publishing most days: playbooks on brand and PR, a running series on how AI is changing the way all of us work, and honest notes from building this in beta.
Buyers are already asking AI who to trust. We are building the platform that helps you become that answer, and we are starting here, on purpose.
